Johnny’s Corner, Ladner Village

Named Johnny’s Corner after Johnny Lowe who opened Ladner Grocery in 1963. Stir Coffee House that is there now is owned by his son, Robert Lowe. My favourite part of this scene is wonderful aged Oak tree. I believe these sorts of gorgeous mature trees are worth so much to the world. They offer shelter for humans and small creatures alike. They are worth our respect and protection.

Angela’s Corner

This Spring it closed because its beloved owner Angela Husvik passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was a community-minded and dynamic store owner that helped in making our village as wonderful as it is today. She will be deeply missed.

Sunflower Lane

Offerings include all the local seasonal produce, cutting flowers and local artisanal products. Owner Sharon Ellis has an eye for detail, creating layers of colour and interest for all visitors. One of the highlights is the Sunflower Lane. Many varieties of sunflowers are available there. I couldn’t resist illustrating these beauties last summer (2023) in all their glory.

These gourds and all their varieties and fascinating shapes certainly tickled my fancy. I couldn’t resist illustrating them. While there are many different gourds, in array of colours, I was drawn to all the shades of vibrant green in this grouping.

Downriver

We have affectionately named this place, the Dragonfly Lane. This illustration from 2020 is the first one I ever completed. From that time forward, I was hooked and have since finished at least 40 other illustrations of this place on the Westcoast of BC that I call home.

Shades of Blue

I loved the deep royal blue of the tarp and the deep orange of the life ring juxtaposed with the grunge browns of the mildly dilapidated docks. And, of course, there is the gull, just hanging out.

Brackman-Kerr Cherry Blossoms
$47.00 – $247.00West Coast PrintsCanvas 1.5-inch Gallery WrapFine Art Paper Print OnlyClear12x1218x18This image is of the corner of Chisholm St. and Georgia Street, kitty-corner from the site of the recently demolished the Seven Seas Fish Co. Ltd. in Ladner, on the Westcoast of British Columbia. This building is one of the 3 original Brackman-Ker Granaries, c. 1904. While historical, and also with bats in its attic, it probably doesn’t have too much time left in this world as its been structurally sagging for years now. Illustrating both peeling paint and flower blossoms are painstaking, but I just can’t help myself, as I am so drawn to both elements. I’m especially attracted to the meaning of their juxtaposition too; the cycle of life, old and new, abandonment and renewal.

Nestled among the Cattails and Purple Loosestrife, this print features one of our most celebrated river birds, the Great Blue Heron. The background is a typical rag-tag scene of Westcoast river life; depicting a vintage fishing boat, tatty net shed, and rustic old barn.
