The Breadbasket at Twilight, was a charmer belonging to our friend Jerry. It was a 1946 converted BC Ferry Double-Ender lifeboat that he purchased in Victoria, British Columbia and motored over to Ladner. The breadbasket was moored outside of Speed’s Pub in Ladner one evening and my son took photos of it resulting in this illustration. The soft light in the cabin and in the Wharfinger House windows in background against somewhat stormy skies set a foreboding, yet serene scene. The Breadbasket itself unfortunately sank about a year after I completed this piece.

All lined up and ready for the wrecking yard! I didn’t know it at the time (this seems to be a theme for me). This was illustrated from a series of images I captured at the Captain’s Cove Marina in Ladner, British Columbia. I can imagine the days past where these were rough and tumble fishing boats, working along the Fraser River, where the fish were in abundance and fishing for a living was a lucrative business. The colour palette is rust, orange, cream and sky blue.

This illustration is based on a series of images I captured while on a boat ride with my friend Bob in the Fall of 2023. This is Tucked in the Shadows depicting a group of old fishing Seine boats resting alongside a Norsk container barge in the South Arm of the Fraser River near Wellington Point in Ladner, British Columbia. Steely aluminum greys, river blues and rusty hues of the Westcoast fishing industry make up this restful colour palette.

This is the fifth and most recent banner, originally designed to submit to a local street banner competition. Nestled among the Cattails and Purple Loosestrife, this print features one of our most celebrated river birds, the Great Blue Heron. The background is a typical rag-tag scene of Westcoast river life; depicting a vintage fishing boat, tatty net shed, and rustic old barn.

This historic building is located on the corner of Elliott St. and River Road West, in Ladner, British Columbia. Originally, it was Jordan’s Stables, c. 1910, and served as a hay storage shed, and has been many things along the way. Most recently, it has been the home of West Coast Seeds. This old green sedan parked in front pays homage to the past on a cool, sunny winter day.

This illustration is based on a series of images captured of the Westham Island Bridge on a sunny, slightly hazy, hot afternoon in the summer of 2021. While this particular bridge, The Westham Island Bridge is a common subject for many local artists, I thought to illustrate through a bit of a different perspective. Westham Island Bridge, Left Side is a dreamy, nostalgic depiction of a notable historic landmark. The bridge and its famous peeling turquoise paint evokes such fond memories for locals and is so iconic to this region of Delta, British Columbia.

In 2021, I illustrated Westham Island Bridge, Left Side, which is still, to date, my most popular image ever. Because I named it – Left Side, my friends and customers teased me – so where’s the right side? So, a year after I completed illustrating the first bridge, I illustrated this: Westham Island Bridge, Right Side. The left side is more serene and tranquil, while this right side is grittier, more industrial and harder-lined. The bridge and its famous peeling turquoise paint evokes such fond memories for locals and is so iconic to this region of Delta, on the west coast of British Columbia.

In Harbour Park, across the Chilcotin Slough from Ladner the Wharfinger House is quite the landmark. Behind this house is Wharfinger Shed in the same brilliant red as the house. I love this slightly messy summer scene with potted flowers, wheelbarrow, and white picket fence complete with marine life ring. The  boat harbour that the Wharfinger resides over is in the background. Red, green, and white make up this summer day palette.
